Summary 1. Competitions are open to all members in good standing. Members must be present on competition night in order to compete. 2. There are four categories: Monochrome prints, Color prints, Digital Monochrome images, and Digital Color images. · a member may not enter more than three images (plus one themed image if there is a previously announced theme topic) into the Monochrome Prints and Digital Monochrome images categories in a given competition; · a member may not enter more than three images (plus one themed image if there is a previously announced theme topic) into the Color Prints and Digital Color images categories in a given competition; · Hand tinted prints or selectively colored or tinted images are to be entered as Color prints or Digital Color images. · Sepia or cold tinted prints are to be entered as Monochrome prints or Digital Monochrome images. · Borders and frames for Print and Digital Monochrome images must only contain hues already contained in the image; i.e., an un-tinted image may not have a red border, and. a sepia tinted image may not be framed in blue. 3. Separate Competition Entry Forms must be used for color and mono Prints, but are not required for Digital. Instead, separate emails are required for color and mono digital. 4. The original exposure and all components of the image must have been taken by the entrant. Borders and frames may be from any source. 5. Entries will be graded by the judge(s) on a scale of 1 – 15. There are three classes of entrants: Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced. 6. Any entry receiving an award may NOT be re-entered in a later monthly competition in the same category. If no award is earned, that entry may be re-submitted 2 more times in the same category. No entry may be entered more than 3 times. 7. Monochrome and Color versions of the same image may not be entered in the same month. 8. A print made from a digital image, and the original digital image, may both be entered but NOT in the same month.
COMPETITION ENTRIES PRINTS: 1. Prints may not be more than 2 years old but the negatives may be of any age. 2. Each print must be mounted on 16"x20" single weight MAT board with or without an overmat (thickness may not exceed ¼”), or ¼” Foam core without an overmat. The print size may not be less than 7"x 10". Frames are not permitted. 3. Each print must bear the entrant's name and its title on the back in the upper left hand corner. 4. Prints MUST NOT have any protrusions or abrasive surfaces on the front or on the back. This is to protect the actual print when they are stacked. Any prints not meeting this requirement will be rejected. 5. Separate Competition Entry Forms must be submitted for Mono and Color Prints. 6. Please come to the Competition Meeting 15 minutes early when submitting Prints. Image capture date may be of any age, but computer processing must have been done within the last 2 years. 2. Each image file must be flattened, 8 bit, jpg or .tif without compression and without alpha channels, and have no more than 1400 pixels in the horizontal (width) dimension, and 1050 pixels in the vertical (height) dimension. Color Profile should be sRGB. Resolution must be 180 pixels per inch. Ideally, after resizing, either the image width should equal 1400px (without the height being greater than 1050px) or the image height should equal 1050px (without the width being greater than 1400px). If emailing .tif files, be sure that you do not exceed the email size limit as specified by your email provider. 3. The filename of each image must start with an m or c, (for monochrome or color), the number 1, 2, 3 or 4 (4 is only used for Themes), the initials of the entrant’s first and last names or another 2 letter code as assigned by the Projectionist if a conflict with an existing member occurs, and then the title of the image with spaces and capital letters where appropriate but without any punctuation. For example, if Jane Doe is submitting 3 color images and a theme with titles “Golden Calla Lily”, “Landscape in Southern Arizona”, “Sunset” and “Dual Skyscrapers”, the filenames would be: c1jdGolden Calla Lilly c2jdLandscape in South Arizona.jpg c3jdSunset.jpg c4jdDual Skyscrapers.jpg
4. Send separate emails for your mono and color digital images. Always use a subject line as shown below with the correct competition month and category. Include your name and class within the email. Always use the same spelling/format for your name in the body of your emails. Even if you do not submit 3 digital images for a category, you must have 3 submission lines as shown in example 2. Emailed images must be received before midnight of the Wednesday immediately preceding the competition meeting, unless a prior date is announced in advance. When you email the images, attach the photo to your email as a file, NOT A PHOTO, or else the image will have its pixel count reduced. An email address will be provided to new members. 6. When submitting images on CD/DVD, bring them to the meeting that is held 2 to 3 weeks prior to the competition, or mail them to the Projectionist so that they are received by the date/time specified for receiving emailed submissions. CD/DVD’s will not be accepted the night of the competition. 7. A fee of $1.00 per image is charged for each digital image submitted for a monthly competition. For new members, there is no charge for the first month’s submission. Please come early to the competition meeting and give the fee to our Treasurer.
